Providence Currency

The first tip of any drag show? Tip your Queens! And what better way to represent that than putting drag queens on bills. After being assigned to redesign currency for the city of Providence, a city known for its acceptance and support of the LGBT+ community, I took inspiration from the local drag scene.

To give each bill and queen their own spotlight while staying unique, the decision was made to focus on one queen and one color per bill. Realizing there were 4 colors to focus on, and given the subjects are so bold, I chose to incorporate a pop art aesthetic.  To add to the pop art theme, each background is a texture you might see in a comic book, with bright colors and exaggerated shapes. To express the pride and ally-ship that Providence has with its LGBT community, I added a rainbow flag behind the Providence Seal and the Mayor’s name.
